The Original Alaska Bull Magnet® Moose Call is a durable, multi-function vocalizer designed to perform five highly effective moose-calling actions: Call, Thrash, Listen, Flash, and Drain Water (to mimic the sound of a cow urinating). This combination of features makes it one of the most versatile and effective moose-calling tools ever developed.

My name is Wayne Kubat, and I have been a registered Alaska Big Game Guide since 1986 and a Master Guide since 2004. I have lived, flown, and hunted throughout Alaska since making it my permanent home in 1976.
Together with my wife, Marilyn Kubat, we have owned and operated Alaska Remote Guide Service since 1987, specializing in fully guided moose, brown/grizzly bear, and Dall sheep hunts.
We developed the idea for the Bull Magnet®, trademarked the name, and began hand-crafting and selling them in 1993. Since then, over 30,000 Bull Magnets® have been sold to hunters across the United States, Canada, and beyond. Thousands of hunters have successfully used the Bull Magnet® to Call Moose to Dinner and Fill Freezers.

The Bull Magnet® has achieved near-legendary status and has been featured in numerous moose-hunting videos and television programs.

From 1993 through 2024, every Bull Magnet® was handcrafted in Alaska from fiberglass – mostly by Marilyn and myself. They ranged from 13–18 inches in length and varied in color, with most produced in antler-colored light brown. We also made limited quantities in white, camouflage, and even some red, and blue ones for friends to use to cheer on their favorite athlete or sports team.
In June 2025, we introduced a newly improved Bull Magnet® and launched www.BullMagnet.com. The updated model is still produced in the USA, but now crafted in small batches using carefully selected modern synthetic materials. These materials make the call:
- Lighter
- Stronger
- More durable
- Better sounding
The overall shape remains unchanged, and the new cream color enhances visibility during “flashing.” Every unit is built to strict standards and visually inspected before shipping.
Fiberglass is durable but has drawbacks:
- It can crack or split under extreme use
- It emits a chemical odor
- It can cause itching or slivers
- Accidental bumps create a tinny sound
- Thrashing sound quality depends heavily on how the horn is held
After years of searching, we found a synthetic material that delivers consistent sound quality, significantly improved durability, and better overall performance—without fiberglass’s downside.
After extensive research on various resin and polymer blends, we narrowed the options to five finalists. Six samples of each were produced for testing.

Nine of Alaska’s most experienced moose hunters and guides—trusted friends—joined us in a rigorous testing process that included:
- Repeated striking and abuse in temperatures down to minus 5°F
- Extended exposure to rain and sunlight
- Sound-quality evaluation across a wide temperature range
The winning material was the unanimous choice for durability, sound quality, and performance under extreme conditions. The final product surpassed every expectation and is engineered to withstand any real-world hunting scenario.
Yes. Absolutely.
While our fiberglass models are excellent, the new generation offers:
- A slightly deeper tone
- Enhanced nasal quality for cow calls and bull grunts
- Superior durability
- Better uniformity from piece to piece
- More consistent sound in all temperatures
- Better all-around multi-function performance than any moose-calling product on the market
Because the design, concept, and purpose remain true to the original invention created in Alaska. We introduced the first 2-stage angled design, trademarked the name in 1993, and continue to produce and test Bull Magnets here today. The updated materials simply enhance an already proven product.
Yes. Hunters have successfully used it to call:
- Wolves, Coyotes & Fox
- Grizzly, Brown and Black Bear
- Elk
2025 – Montana:
“Called in two bulls—Dave shot the second one! Later in the week I even called in a huge grizzly (kept his distance thankfully). Amazing hunt, amazing bull, amazing call.” — S.P.
2024 – Montana:
“Used your call to bring in black bears here in Montana… haha.” — M.S.
2025 – Illinois:
“Set up in a swamp without my elk bugle tube. Guide started moose calling, and three minutes later a bull elk showed up! Outfitter of 25+ years tried the call and bought one for himself.” — D.P.

- Length: 14.5 inches
- Taper: <2 inches (narrow end) to 7 inches (wide end)
- Weight: 11.2 ounces
- Features:
- Textured exterior for superior grip
- Reinforced striking end for durability
- Compact enough for backpacks and float-plane hatches
- Large enough to project sound effectively
Not officially. For experimentation, I once removed the 1.5-inch reinforced band using a jigsaw. This saved 3 ounces, and changed the performance very little. The full-size model is still recommended for optimal results.

If the purpose is to add a lanyard, lanyards can cause a choking or snagging hazard and I strongly caution against them.
Yes. We also produce two “Love, Thunder & Bull in Alaska” moose-hunting video guides. Thousands of hunters—many first-timers—have succeeded using these videos along with the Bull Magnet®.

We also plan to offer hats and apparel soon.
Yes. Our calling and hunting strategies apply to all four North American moose subspecies. Timing may vary slightly by region.
The name was inspired by a humorous scene in the movie Pretty Woman, where Julia Roberts explains that her mother called her a “bum magnet.” The idea stuck—thus, Bull Magnet® was born.
Yes, but in limited quantities. If you would like one, please call or email us.
Bull Magnets are significantly more durable and multi-functional. They last longer and provide consistent sound quality in all weather conditions.
